Searching for the Mind of Christ

THE SECRET PLACE

shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 12

SEARCHING FOR THE MIND OF CHRIST

The most important tradition found in ancient civilizations has been the passing of knowledge to the next generation for the simple reason of preserving the heritage and legacy of the past. One sign of a dissolving society is when the older leaders become deceived with error, laziness, apathy, and sin. As they fail to stand for truth, the up and coming decision makers begin to reject traditional thinking and eventually the original established philosophies are set aside and replaced with new and seemingly dynamic concepts. If moral convictions that were once a normal way of life are allowed to be transformed into unfamiliar worldviews, the next generation of movers and shakers can actually change the thinking and complexion of the culture. Change is good as long as it brings more of God’s truth, but when mixed with secular humanism, it can be just as dangerous as it is helpful. Moreover, society must not become so angry and frustrated with their condition, that they accept a “new age” of change out of desperation. This is an old “hat trick” from Satan, which falls into the category of spiritual witchcraft with the consequences being damaging and deadly.

There is nothing more important for us who know biblical truth than to devote our lives passing the spiritual baton of “soul saving” secrets of divine wisdom to the future. It is the hope and security of God’s Word that has the ability to sustain and empower those who have been chosen to embrace its principals. For example, modern education is openly teaching young minds, the politically correct idea that the evolution theory is uniformity; that is, it seeks to show that life in all its various forms and manifestations probably originated by causes similar to or identical with forces and processes now prevailing. They teach the absolute supremacy and the past continuity of natural law as now observed. Uniformity says the changes now going on in our modern world have always been in action, and these present-day natural changes and processes are as much a part of the origin as anything that has taken place in the past. This fairytale view of nature and matter tries desperately to disprove God and his Word for the purpose of establishing an atheistic order of laws and precepts to live by. In reality, the truth is that man is evil, and as he continues to destroy the earth, even the atmosphere, the ocean or the animals will not be able to survive his greed. In turn, God is bringing judgment upon man because of his selfishness, and is very displeased with the way humans have treated His beautiful creation.

It is sad that many have been brainwashed into these deceptions and choose to rely on fiction instead of trusting the wisdom of God who has already proven his validity. It is with complete confidence that I proclaim that man did not evolve from a microorganism, a monkey or any other animal form. The theories and daydreams of such thoughts are an insult to God and to those who are His disciples. This is not to say there is no such thing as evolution, because it is possible for certain things to change, however everything was originally made by the One and only God of Alpha and Omega. For example, breeding certain animals and coming up with a specie modification is completely different from saying that a whale can morph into a elephant or that a rhinoceros can transform into a wolverine. Creation was not a process but rather was “spoken” directly and plainly into existence and instantly manifested by the authority and majesty of who God is. The liberal, humanistic leaders of modern intelligence cannot accept this magnitude of the miracle of creation. God is deity, from His nature to His name and He is the only one who can create from that which does not exist. He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. He has always known everything from past, present and future, the beginning, the end and everything in between. It is a blind and deceived fool that would belittle God’s divine omnipotence by explaining away the power of His Word. If every human tossed God’s Word in the garbage can and decided to write his or her own worldview it would not affect the truth. God’s Word, ability and authority is true whether “anyone” believes it or not!

To better understand God, one must bow down to him with not just the physical knee but also a surrender of the “will” of their heart. This has always been where humankind draws the line. It comes down to the attitude of pride every time, which reveals the condition of the carnal conscience. Man wants to control his own destiny and believes he can. This mindset has brought floods, fire and great destruction to the world since time began. Those who remain calloused automatically become a hindrance to the progress of the kingdom of light and cannot comprehend what is spiritually or morally correct. They cannot see through the altered lenses of delusion. This transformation process called “salvation” or being ”born again”, that consist of yielding and bowing our will, has not been taught correctly neither has it been understood by the masses. Our mental, emotional and spiritual plans and ideas must be totally surrendered to him before he can intervene. He has come to rescue us from ourselves and we need him desperately. God’s kingdom is the opposite of man’s religious system. We “descend” into greatness; less is more because the less there is of us the more God can minister through us. Pride is the evil spirit that puffs us UP – but humility is a downward mobility that is required to manifest Christ. In Psalm 51, there is a verse that speaks about this attitude “adjustment”, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

If you are a student of the New Testament you have already seen the outline of its message; the world hates the message of surrender and the messenger is Jesus. Christians and non-Christians relate to Christ many different ways and how much they accept His message depends on which Jesus they choose to tolerate. For example most people love baby Jesus because babies are so cute and non-threatening. He is not confronting them and they love the feeling of being larger and stronger than him. Adults are naturally in total control of a baby and the human conscience can rest easy in the presence of an infant. At Christmas most people are in a festive mood of cheer and good will and can go along with the story about the wise men and Bethlehem. For the masses Jesus is harmless as long as He is kept in the manger. It is when He is allowed to grow up and express His absolute truth that He becomes a ruling King.

Another picture of Jesus that is widely accepted is when He fed and healed people. Our mind registers this view of Jesus as a provider and supplier of our needs. We like the idea of someone presenting us a delicious buffet or relieving our pain. This is a positive image that is tolerated among those who do not acknowledge God until they “need” something. These simple-minded thoughts about Christ are easy to deal with and are about as much of God as most people want. Where the masses begin to turn away from Jesus and walk away is when he is presented as teacher and master. This turns the tables and places him in authority and control. When the world is introduced to his anointed instructions and requirements the room begins to thin out, as people grow uncomfortable and rebellion begins to rise up from their human nature. To most individuals life is an amusement ride built for their enjoyment. Humans love pleasure and desire to stimulate every nerve and indulge in every pleasure with constant gratification – and to consume it all in lust. The world does not want to be told what to do in their personal thoughts and actions and they certainly hate to develop self-discipline or to be governed. They will have the last say or die trying. It is the ever-present attitude of pride that breeds rebellion and the age-old battle of control between the spirit and the flesh. In fact, the more that people understand what Christ desires, the more they begin to realize that he wants to rule their every thought and decision. Bingo! Religion has always compromised, distorted and watered down the Word of God because it is too difficult. The churches are being deceived with cupcake lessons in socially acceptable thinking and a logical tolerance to SIN! Sadly, the masses are generally NOT becoming closer to God – they are drifting farther away.

The religious system feeds the masses what they want to hear in order to keep up the salaries and expenses to finance their existence. The truth is that religion loves their non-threatening, “pleasure programs” but actually hates the real Jesus and would never support Him or His doctrines. The religious world seems to be powerful in pomp and ceremony but spiritually they are shallow and powerless because they do not know God personally. The attitude toward Jesus has not changed since the religious system cried out for his execution. It is basically the same – He stood before them as an innocent man and they denied His uncompromising word of truth! Selah.

Discovering Truth — Within Ourselves

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 11

DISCOVERING TRUTH – WITHIN OURSELVES

Someone was telling me the other day, about a documentary they had seen on television that was about the views between gays and Christianity. Of course, most people now realize that many religions are softening their attitudes about homosexuality and are becoming more accepting every day. Even though many modern churches have taken a liberal direction, there are still some Christians that strongly oppose being gay as an intentional lifestyle. Supposedly, the gays featured in this program were questioning the “lack” of Christian love from those who proclaim to be filled with the mercy of Jesus. This is a type of reverse psychology that plays the victim and attempts to create an emotional guilt complex in those that are weak and ignorant. In the days ahead, the masses will surrender to the bombardment of the world, to modify their convictions and embrace all people no matter what they do or stand for; exactly as they are – without believing they are driven and captured by sin. It is the oldest trick in the book, to prey on the politically correct, that are double-minded and do not know God intimately – for the purpose of justifying sin.

I personally believe that we should not accept or congratulate the lifestyle of anyone that indulges in a habitual sin. Sin is sin and no matter how we paint it or decorate it, it is still offensive to God and He will never say it is ok. We are called to love sinners (everyone), but we are not to tell them it is alright to keep sinning. We are to help whoever sincerely comes to us in need of deliverance and willing to repent. However, we are not to wink at “acceptable” sins and then become aggressive toward other sins that offend us. If we gorge ourselves with fattening foods and become obese, we are intentionally sinning. If we drink alcohol or take drugs to become intoxicated, there is no way we can justify our actions as being holy unto the Lord. Being gay and having an abortion are lifestyle choices that may be popular and in the news, but they are not really any worse than any of the other sins we allow to come between us and God. It is hypocritical to point our finger in judgment and condemn someone for their open sin, while we are guilty of another “type” of sin. This would fall under the attitude of trying to remove the splinters from everyone’s eyes, while we have a log in our own eye. Both sins are wrong – and both individuals need to repent! The Lord hates ALL sin and is ready to forgive anyone that comes to Him in brokenness and sorrow. As the adulterous woman was pulled into the street and the religious leaders were ready to stone her, maybe Christ wrote their sins on the ground and told them they need to go home and repent. If she was to be stoned for her sins, then why were they not to be stoned for their sins? Of course, we notice they dropped the rocks and walked away. Many play games with; gluttony, perversion, abuse, pride, pornography, selfishness, wasting time, fornication, adultery, stealing, drinking and pain pills, lying, cheating on taxes, stealing at work or flirting with the opposite sex. Allow me to ask – what is the difference?

It seems we have lost our discernment to know what sin is – and what sin is not. We are always ready to justify our actions as we try to “bend” the rules, so we can escape the guilt and conviction of our conscience. We can say things like; reading erotic fiction is not really hurting anyone because it is fantasy and exaggerating my stories is not really lying because no one actually knows the difference. We can judge that people who are damaged because of their sinning do not deserve any help, because this justifies us not reaching out in love. We can justify our criticism and negative gossip toward those who appear lazy and trashy, because they “deserve” whatever happens to them. Is this really Agape love? It is true, the wages of sin is death, but this truth also applies to “our” sins. Jesus gave His life to set us free from our sins and this “freedom” should give us the compassion to proclaim His gospel that can rescue the lost.

Today’s religious agenda is trying to present Jesus as a God that became a human so that He could understand how weak we are. In this eye opening experience, Jesus now can relate to our temptations and realizes how weak we are when it comes to disobedience. Let me say this – He became the sacrifice that paid for our sins so that we could be DELIVERED from our sins! He did not shed His blood as a human just so he could relate to us and have sympathy toward our rebellious nature. Being the Son of Man, means He understands about our sin and being the Son of God means that He does not compromise His truth! He does ignore or look over our carnality because He wants everyone to relax and be happy as they LIVE in carnality! Sadly, He already knew how corrupt we were before He came to earth. If we are seeking truth, let us know that He hates sin! May we embrace the concept of salvation is turning AWAY from sin so that we can draw near to Him. Desiring more truth includes facing the truth within us. Selah.

On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 10

ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND

Every religion in the world has a leader and followers. Most of the leaders are dead, yet are still worshipped. If there is one obvious reason to support the view that God the Father, Jesus His Son, and The Holy Spirit, are the one and only true God, it is the fact that He was from the beginning, He is still alive, and He has no end. It is staggering to realize the depth of deception when so many millions embrace gods that were created by man and are not immortal. Jesus came to earth from heaven as THE God, and super-naturally was born through a virgin to live life as a human. He was all God and all man, and His perfect life, death, and resurrection was the only sacrifice valuable enough to redeem and ransom all who will believe and embrace Jesus Christ as their Lord. Unlike any other god or idol, Jesus lives today as Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent, which means He has ALL power and authority, has all knowledge and knows every word and every thought of every person that has ever lived – all at the same time. Since no one created Him, this simply means He is the creator of all things, leaving every other religion as an imposter.

ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND – ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND

If every religion in the world was built on the solid rock of eternal redemption, had the power to forgive sin, resurrect us from the dead, transform our lost spirit into a new spirit, and provide eternal life, it would not matter which religious “flavor” we preferred. However – “Houston, we have a problem”. It does matter! Why? Because only ONE God in the universe has these attributes and qualifications. Every other religious figure does NOT have the spiritual ability to give immortality. In man’s world of false religions, leaders use their charisma and charm as they chase people and beg them to join their cause so that more people can participate and they can become more popular. Man wants to be like God, yet not submit to Him, and the kingdom of darkness is always there to support his rebellion. On the other hand, in our heavenly Father’s perfect Kingdom of light, He personally sends out His “invitations” and must call us, convict us and pull us into His presence by His WORD that we might “see our need” to be born-again. God does not force us, but rather leaves the decision to our free will. The opening of our spiritual eyes allows us to see God and His truth like no other “being” can do. Once again, no other religious icon, entity, idol or god, has the power to change our spirit from its fallen state into a brand new identification. Without being born-again through the blood of Jesus Christ and allowing Him to live in our heart – no person will be granted permission into heaven. All religions that worship anything except The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit will face the judgment of Hades. This separation from the presence of God is not an act of cruelty but rather the justified consequences of rejecting Christ as the one true King of God’s Kingdom and the only Savior of the world. Soon, every empire, ruler, king and kingdom, president, nation, imagination, government, and religion will bow before Him and acknowledge that He is THE Lord of Lords and THE King of Kings. Since there is only ONE ROCK and ONE KINGDOM, there is no room for any speculation, doubt, argument, division, opinions or discord.

Several worldviews have slowly worked their way into the minds of the vulnerable and through the years have multiplied. These growing acceptances of secular thinking along with the rejection of God’s spiritual principals and values have now become a strong influence. As the governments of the world embrace the new age doctrines of social order, we can see that Christian’s are now being recognized as a hate monger. This is not a new strategy for the devil, as he has always been at war with God’s people. Jesus declared openly how the devil has come to kill, steal and destroy, so this should not be a surprise. What is alarming in this hour is the increasing numbers of those who embrace humanism who claim to be the “new and improved” version of what a real Christian is. The dividing line between the genuine and the counterfeit has always been vague, but now the aggressive new age reformers are being accepted by the masses as a “better” church that is much smarter than the old church. For the uninformed, this may seem to break down the barriers between the religious world and those who are not a part of the church community. However, the idea that replacing the gospel with moral and political compromise will somehow increase true spirituality is “deadly” and just another public relations strategy to gain more members and raise more money. Without the foundational truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, there is NO presence of God. Without God’s uncompromised Word, there is NO power unto salvation!

It is no secret that the lost do not want anything to do with God unless they NEED Him. As a minister and chaplain, I notice every day how people live their lives and sadly to say, there is little awareness or sensitivity toward matters of the spirit. It is common for me to go somewhere and for certain individuals to actually shun me as if I am carrying a contagious disease. When dark spirits come into the presence of Christ, of course, they do not agree, and with being in opposition, they will try to avoid confrontation. If the modern church attempts to deceive the “seeker” by not telling them exactly what, “Jesus being Lord” is all about, the motives of their concern are in question. The blind may feel more comfortable where sin is accepted and there is an absence of truth and conviction, but that does not mean this is a genuine Christian representation of His Kingdom.

Nothing is new – religion has always been the enemy of God’s people. Satan spends all of his time trying to wrap religion in different color packages, but throughout the ages, it is still the same evil spirit. Satan has been called the imitator and deceiver that presents himself as someone who is good, as he has always tried to be something he is not. The wolf in sheep’s clothing is a perfect example of how he operates in this realm. Humans, (like sheep) are very easily deceived and the devil has not really had a difficult time convincing most of the people to follow him. His crafty advantage lies in the fact that humans love their flesh and have very little willpower to resist temptation. When they hear sermons that speak God’s truth about holiness, sanctification, sacrifice, suffering, faith, and enduring spiritual warfare, they can easily become distracted and eventually uninterested. The lost world has never subscribed to the “real” Word of God; however, they are more inclined to accept a corrupted, generic version of it. The devil knows that “cozy” religion is much more accepted because it blends perfectly with the fuzzy feelings of doing God a favor. The new ideas of spirituality allow everyone to believe whatever they want and society will enforce that all people tolerate each view. Satan desires to close the mouths of God’s witness because he knows that for the world to remain in darkness, the FIRE of God’s Word must be extinguished. The plan of Satan is to change the way we think by incorporating his lies into everyone’s belief system, to denounce the concept of absolute truth and ridicule the possibility that God’s Word is THE valid “standard” to live by.

Am I saying that no one can have an opinion? No. I am saying that everyone’s belief system that does not agree with God’s absolute truth is wrong. I am sure that we are all wrong in some things but we are also being shaped and formed in the process of learning. Can we know the mind of God and His perfect truth? Yes! When we become born-again, our mind and spirit become renewed to accept a new spiritual truth directly from the Holy Spirit. Within this new state of being, our sensitivity to error becomes our security system to prevent deception. IF we are walking with Christ in a personal, intimate relationship, we will experience conviction when Biblical error is exposed. This is what makes the acceptance of humanism among Christians so alarming. For professing Christians to abandon their faith and willingly embrace heresy, either there has been a falling away of the commitment to abiding with Christ or there has never been an authentic spiritual birth. I personally believe that many people who claim to be saved, have never had a genuine encounter with God. A religious act of ceremony, performed while being emotional, is not always a born-again experience. We do not join membership into God’s family because we feel like it is a good thing to do – rather, we are pricked in our heart with conviction from hearing Christ knock on the door of our heart. We must receive the revelation of what He gave on the cross and that without His redemption we are hopelessly lost forever. Our sin must become repulsive to us and cause us deep sorrow. This sincere repentance and the acceptance of His grace brings a supernatural transformation of our dead spirit to one of eternal life. Included in this new way of understanding is the ability to know right from wrong according to the presence of truth that rules and reigns within our conscience. The idea of Christ being our Lord and King is what establishes our position as servant and friend.

Everyone is laying a foundation and building a house of some kind in some way. Moreover, each person has no choice whether or not to build – only who and what to build it on. “Lord, use our words to stir others to go further and deeper. Jesus, give us a burden to love others. Without you, everything is vague and unfocused. Give us clarity that we may be able to discern these times and like the noble Bereans, to sift truth from error. In the precious Name of Jesus Christ, we pray, amen”.

One King — One Kingdom

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 9

ONE KING – ONE KINGDOM

Relativists teach the “wonderful” philosophy of emancipating humanity from the terrible representations of absolutism, the problem is the hypocrisy of how they believe their wisdom is “absolutely” true. The theme or standard of thought is that; “nothing is good or bad – it is thinking that makes it so”. It is not difficult to detect confusion from a worldview who teaches against teaching! It can be said that relativists are missionaries without a religion. They should consider practicing what they preach, or else preach what they practice. If they truly practice the relativism, they preach – they will stop preaching. If they preach what they practice – their eyes would be opened to a revelation of right and wrong. Relativism is inherently unstable as Sartre observed that no finite point has any meaning without an “infinite” reference point. Only if there is an eternal, trusted, fixed point by which we can measure and judge life – can we intelligently discuss the “meaning of life”. Without this perfect reference point, we can only interpret truth from our own individual, group, or cultural perspective. If we accept there is no standard by which to measure – life becomes a meaningless quest filled with opinions, theories, and endless disagreements.

I am not implying that I know all or have all of the truth, but rather I believe that GOD contains complete, perfect, eternal truth. Absolute truth is His nature and character, it is WHO HE IS and there is no one else in heaven, earth or the universe that can compare to Him or question Him. In today’s world, where scholars stumble in the darkness, it is common for religious peacemakers to come up with logical alternatives to religious diversity. The idea of ALL religions being included together as “one” truth, is such a wonderful storybook solution of peace, love and spiritual harmony. A brief example of some popular god’s that postmodern thinkers are trying to weave together would be, Biame, Rainbow serpent, Jupiter – optimus maximus, Zeus – father of all gods, Breged – the mother goddess, Ahura Mazda, Brahman, Rama, Krishna, Vishnu, Hashem, Allah and Queztalcoatl, just to name a few. In actuality, what they all have in common, is they are all God’s enemies trying to destroy the souls of humankind. Scholars in searching for answers to “please” everyone, have come up with four possible theories of how all the religions in the world can be understood:

THERE ARE MANY “REAL” GODS

THERE ARE NO REAL GODS

THERE IS ONE REAL GOD AND MANY FALSE GODS

THERE IS ONE REAL GOD BEING REPRESENTED IN DIFFERENT WAYS BY ALL RELIGIONS

It would be safe to say, that most everyone can agree with at least one of these options. Atheist would choose number two and those who pride themselves as being socially tolerant and politically correct would choose number one or number four. The Christian would not hesitate to choose number three because of scriptures like these, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of GOD: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Here is how you can know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of GOD. And, every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of GOD: and this is that spirit of ANTICHRIST, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is in the world. We are of GOD: he that knows GOD hears us; he that is not of GOD does not hear us. This is how we know the spirit of TRUTH, and the spirit of ERROR.” (I John 4:1-3, 6)

There can only be ONE creator that has no beginning, because it is this God that created all things. All other gods are an attempt to deceive the world and become “like” the original true God. False idols are imposters and imitations that desire to be exalted and worshipped, which is why it is idolatry, blasphemy and rebellion to love, worship, accept, adore or even tolerate a man-made object of adulation as being THE authority of heaven and earth. The one true God not only will never share His glory with no other, He considers them in direct opposition to His omniscience and omnipotence. There are no other deities that God Almighty will allow to be substituted for Him and there are no “good gods” trying to help Him “save” the world. The blood of Jesus is the only price that can forgive sin and redeem the human spirit. Satan is the Father of all lies, who navigates his kingdom within the demonic assault of anti-Christ, using this dark force to empower every false religion. When done with a pure and humble heart, there is no arrogance in making correct statements about divine reality. The deception of the world is a weeping tragedy and the absolute truth of one God, one Lord of all, one King, one Savior, one salvation, one Holy Spirit and one Holy Word, is the ONLY divine revelation “FACT” that can set the prisoners free. C.S. Lewis said, “A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line.” The eyes of most of the world are blind because their spirit has not been transformed and their minds have not been renewed. Jesus said, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believes on me should not abide in darkness.” (St. John 12:46)

It is not the Christian who is puffed up with an attitude of superiority or condemns the world, but rather they are the laborers who sow the seed of the gospel of salvation. They realize Jesus is the “only” way, the “only” truth and the “only” life and as they worship Him in Spirit and Truth, they reach out to everyone they can in LOVE, so that all can embrace Christ as their only hope to be forgiven and born-again. “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be SAVED. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that does not believe is condemned already, BECAUSE HE HAS NOT BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (St. John 3:17-19) Many of the most brilliant philosophers have concluded that if we give up belief in God, we are left with despair in the realms of meaning, dignity, peace and morals.

The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. This statement is absolute truth – not because I said it, but because God’s Word IS TRUTH and to “personally” know Him, is to speak with holy reverence what He said. Satan hates this statement and it is no secret that he is trying to pervert and corrupt our entire society to discredit anyone who stands for God’s Word. It is now being accepted, in the highly respected halls of secular academia that Christians who make these proclamations are prejudiced, narrow-minded, ignorant, hate-filled, and delusional and a danger to society. The dark kingdom’s strategy, is to entangle all religions into a chaotic free-for-all that produces violence, or isolates them with hatred, jealousy and the deception that they can worship whomever they choose and will “still” be counted as worthy to receive eternal life in heaven. The tares in the parable of the sower are the religious people who were deceived, yet fervent in their zeal to worship other gods. They were respected in the eyes of the world as diligent, devoted and “equally” correct in their interpretation of religious truth, but in the judgment were NOT accepted as children of the ONE and ONLY TRUE God. Sincere intentions cannot override the perfect integrity of the Omniscient maker of everything. “He that sows the “good seed” is the Son of man; the field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of the world.” (Mathew 13:37-40) God is NOT fallible! It is impossible for Him to do anything that does not exactly agree with His Word. He is not cruel – He is loving and just, full of mercy and grace. He created every life, He is the standard of life and He is the judge of all. “Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Mathew 13:43)

As Satan pushes his agenda for the world to embrace the idea that there are as many ways to heaven as there are concepts, we can clearly see he is just repeating his worn out lie from the Garden of Eden. “For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you will be AS GODS, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5) The “NEW AGE” is really an old mixture of elements from ancient religions and cults. The result is a philosophy that is designed to appeal to anyone, but save no one. The devil realizes that humankind does not “naturally” embrace the idea of yielding their will. With this in mind, he has discovered that people are attracted to the thought of being their own god and controlling their own destiny. Actually, one does not need to be a part of any group or movement to believe that God will accept whatever we do as spiritually valid and pure. The masses have always believed that sincerity and being a good person is good enough to allow the spirit into the eternal bliss of paradise. I hear all the time, “if you are just a good person, easy going, not mean and willing to give the shirt off your back, you’re going to make it. Just be a nice, moral person that provides for your family – that’s all God expects.” The “narrow” path is mentioned for a reason, it’s not just a clever saying – it is very real. Jesus did not die, so that He could be another entree on the religious buffet. His blood is our only forgiveness. His life is the only ransom for our spirit. Selah.

Spirit of the Age

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 8

SPIRIT OF THE AGE

In today’s world of higher education, it is strange how the word “secular” is frowned upon. I use the word myself from time to time to bring clarity to what I am trying to say. I realize that we live and function in an earthly environment; however, I personally do not see anything wrong with the word because it identifies the difference between the nature or “spirit” of the world and the Spirit of God. For the Christian, it is known that we are more closely bonded to the Spirit realm, because our spirit and conscience are intertwined with God and we live according to His voice. This reality of the saints walking in God’s presence and operating within His Kingdom exposes the spiritual intentions of an “opposite” realm that lives according to the character of carnality. The Oxford Dictionary gives this definition: “Worldly, terrestrial, temporal, non-clerical, non-ecclesiastical, material, concerned with the affairs of this world; NOT spiritual nor sacred, not associated with religion or religious belief”. Therefore, whenever I refer to something secular, I am referring to a “system” that desires to be recognized as NOT being affiliated with God. In addition, this includes any religion or philosophy that does not believe in Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit or God’s Bible as absolute truth.

To know God is to know truth. “Now wait a minute sir – the postmodern intellectual in today’s world knows that all “truth” is subjective and relative. Secular education declares that truth is based on individual interpretation and certain beliefs cannot be declared or imposed on another person as being the only “true” truth. It is widely accepted that there are as many versions of truth as there are personal opinions and each human being must be respected for their own unique worldviews of what they “believe” to be truth.” Relativists believe that all Christians who believe in absolutism are self-righteous. However if one studies fervently, it will be revealed that the denial of absolutes is even more arrogant. Though many in the faith may be infected with pride, it can be said that in genuine holiness, absolutes can be asserted without arrogance. If we discover “truth”, it is not necessarily arrogant to admit it. If we learn how to calculate mathematical equations, it is not necessarily haughtiness to say we know this. Some may think that their knowledge of truth makes them better than others; however, the antidote to this unhealthy arrogance should not involve “denying” these things are true but rather to remain humble in the way we hold to it. It should be noted, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. We can be confident, but we should be neither pompous nor hesitant. What can keep us balanced on the tightrope? The answer is wisdom. Wisdom as defined in scripture is a spiritual gift of knowing how to discern and demonstrates both humility and the anointed power to speak clearly and decisively.

It is also very common in today’s social correctness for relativists to believe that a Christian’s assertion of absolute truth leads to intolerance (and I am sure there are many that have been). Nevertheless, it should be considered that this view is actually making a moral judgment. For relativists to proclaim that something is really right and something is really wrong, is interesting to say the least. Actually, believers in Christ have a solid foundation for “defending” tolerance (a foundation that relativism lacks). In fact, many see cultural relativistic tolerance a “false” tolerance, or in other words, tolerance has become the relativists only absolute. True tolerance can and should be defended by believers because we have good reasons for maintaining that rightly defined tolerance is a virtue – and rightly defined intolerance is an intentional vice. For the believer there is an adequate basis to sustain this virtue and teach it to our children; however, tolerance does not imply religious and moral equivalence. It is in the making of this distinction that false tolerance and true tolerance diverge. Some cultural and social forms of tolerance minimize the differences among views, nevertheless, the problem occurs when a religion is merely true for you and my religion true for me, then what we believe is a matter of arbitrary personal preference that is not based on an eternal standard of truth. Thus the “truth” has become not the issue at all. The virtue of genuine tolerance extends to include a legal tolerance for diverse religious practice as well as social tolerance for people who are different from us. The call of Jesus to love our enemies takes us beyond a passive tolerance to a proactive love that needs to be demonstrated across religious, ethnic, cultural, racial and moral divides.

Consider the following illustration by Francis Beckwith.

Teacher: “Welcome students. Since this is the first day of class, I want to lay down some ground rules. First, since no one has the truth, you should be open-minded to the opinions of your fellow students. Second…..Elizabeth, do you have question?”

Elizabeth: “Yes, I do. If nobody has the truth, isn’t that the reason for me NOT to listen to my fellow students? After all, if no one has the truth, why should I waste my time listening to other people and their opinions? What would be the point? Only if someone has the truth does it make sense to open-minded. Don’t you agree?

Teacher: “No, I do not agree. Are you claiming to know the truth? Isn’t that a bit arrogant and dogmatic?”

Elizabeth: “Not at all! Rather, I think it is dogmatic as well as arrogant to assert that there is not one person on earth that knows the truth. Have you met every person in the world and quizzed him or her exhaustively? If not, how can you make such a claim? In addition, I believe it is actually the opposite of arrogance to say that I will “alter” my opinions to fit the truth whenever and wherever I find it. I happen to think that I have good reason to believe I do know the truth and would like to share it with you. If you did not believe that you were teaching the truth, you would not be a teacher. If you automatically discredit my view then you have broken your own rule to be open-minded to the opinions of others.”

Teacher: “This should be an interesting semester”

As this dialogue suggests, holding to eternal truth can be done in a way that reveals the glory of God and the Omnipotence of His wisdom. We are should not be afraid to exalt Him as Lord.

We notice the writings of the Apostle Paul in second Corinthians, demonstrating that he is not being arrogant by being confident in God’s power. “It is true that I am an ordinary, weak human being, but I don’t use human plans and methods to win my battles. I use God’s mighty weapons, not those made by men, to knock down the devil’s strongholds. These weapons can break down every proud ARGUMENT against God and every wall that can be built to keep men from finding Him. The trouble with you is that you look at me and I seem weak and powerless, but you do not look beneath the surface. Yet, if anyone can claim the power and authority of Christ, I certainly can.” (II Corinthians 10:3-5, 7 TLB) Again, see find Paul standing before King Agrippa and how the honest “testimony” of his experience on the road to Damascus revealed a beautiful picture of God’s love and forgiveness. It is not our historical knowledge but rather the revelation of “Christ in us” that will enable us to give an account of who He is and what His intentions are. “Now stand up! For I have appeared to you to appoint you as my servant and my witness. You are to tell the world about this experience and about the many other occasions when I shall appear to you. And, I will protect you from both your own people and the Gentiles, to open their eyes to their true condition so they may repent and live in the light of God instead of Satan’s darkness, that they may receive forgiveness for their sins and God’s inheritance along with ALL people everywhere whose sins are cleansed away, who are set apart by faith in me.” (Acts 26:16-18 TLB) Without passion for truth – we are salt without flavor – as dead men walking.

There was a time when every parent wanted their child to go to college and receive a wonderful education. The idea was that it would help them become more knowledgeable and to live a better life. Unfortunately, the enemy of our souls was invited to present his curriculum and now his lies have become the socially acceptable way of thinking. Sadly, by allowing the neo-pagans, atheist and new age advocates to control our higher education system, it has given Satan the perfect opportunity to poison the minds of our young people with the attitude that anyone who believes in God – also believes in the tooth fairy. It is clear, the enemy is doing everything he can to tear down the courage, confidence and faith of those who represent God. Whose fault is it? The church has become lazy and bored with Bible study and prayer meetings because they allow their flesh to control them. A desire to know WHY we believe has now been replaced with dinners, comedians and entertainment.

Though it is true, that what we practice, (not only what we preach) is a greater contribution to the conversion of others, it is also crucial to know “what” we are talking about. Having a rational justification for our position is the foundation of our confidence to speak to critics of the faith. As the inability among Christians to defend spiritual truth increases, the strategy of Satan to divide and conquer will continue to attack with the battle cry, “it is difficult for the heart to embrace that which the mind does not understand”. C.S. Lewis said that he believed in Christ as he believed that the sun is risen, not because he saw it clearly, but because by “it” he saw everything else.” Selah.

That I May Know Him

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 7

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM

I was reading some commentary from the late David Wilkerson the other day and feel led to share his words. I was thinking about this year’s spiritual direction, and our highest priority must be about drawing closer to Jesus. Many of us are walking with God but none of us can say that we cannot go further into His presence. We can be as close to God as we dare. We are facing much temptation to indulge in pleasure, to relax, enjoy and generally take it easy. Listen as David shares his heart.

“If you can go about your daily life facing all sorts of chaos, interruptions and demands, and yet not spend ten minutes in God’s presence (the secret place), your love for Him is dying. Think about it: If you love someone exclusively above all others, you will make that person feel they are the most important being on earth. Everything else will pale in comparison to them. Is this not how you first loved your spouse when you were courting? If he or she called while you were busy, you dropped everything just to talk to them. If anyone intruded on your time alone together, you resented it. Everything else took second place in your efforts to develop the love between you. Many Christians today go for weeks, even months, without spending quality time with Jesus. How can they love Him with a whole heart when they neglect Him for days on end? In The Song of Solomon, the bride could not sleep because her beloved had left (Song of Solomon 5:6). This woman arose in the middle of the night, saying, “My soul failed . . . I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer” (same verse). So she quickly ran into the streets, looking everywhere for her lover, crying out, “Have you seen my beloved?” Why was this such a serious matter to her? Because, as she said, “This is my beloved, and this is my friend” (verse 16). “I am sick of love [faint with desire for him]” (verse 8). She could not be without her beloved for even a short amount of time. How does Jesus feel when He spreads the table and anxiously awaits our company, yet we never show up to fellowship? The Bible calls us His bride, His beloved, His one great love. He says we were created for fellowship with Him. Therefore, what rejection must He feel when we continually put other “lovers” before Him?”

The Lord knew that if He stayed in heaven and left us on the earth by ourselves, we would drift away from His presence. This is why He came to live inside of us, so that we could live in constant communion. Is it preaching to the choir to ask, “Is Jesus the center of your universe?” (When Christ is our Lord, He sits on the throne of our heart and rules our thoughts and actions). Do you discuss everything with Him? “Of course, Brother Billy, I said I was a Christian. I go to church when I can and I was baptized”. I realize that many seem to be interested in religion, but I believe there are people who call themselves a child of God, yet do not live IN Him, WITH Him or FOR Him. It is mentioned in God’s Word that in the end there will be many who will try to explain all of the good deeds they have done. Evidently, they were actually involved with spiritual works, gifts and miracles as an outreach of “Christian” ministry. Yet, we see God responding that He does not even recognize them. “Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of heaven; but he – (led by God’s Spirit – filled with His nature) that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say unto Me (Jesus) in that day (judgment), Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in Your name have cast out demons? and in Your name have done many wonderful works? And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, you that work iniquity.” (Mathew 7:21-23)

I understand this is a difficult passage, because it would appear these ministers were at least out there “trying” to do a service for God. I understand the human view and the emotional justification of the individual’s intentions; however, if we believe that ministry is a religious “free-for-all” we are drifting away from the truth of how perfect God is. He is so perfect that He does not (cannot) bend His Word to fit our ideas or someone’s unique circumstance and does not compromise with “special” situations. A spiritual principal that must become a personal revelation is called “divine order”. This is a very precious pillar of absolute truth. If we look deeper into divine order, we notice that our spiritual development is based on a foundation, and then our life (or house) is built “upon” the solid rock of who He is – LOVE. So, what is the meaning behind this scripture? These people may have had good intentions; however, many times “good intentions” do not count for anything. It is ALL about obedience! I personally believe these people were trying to build their house on the sand. They were more concerned with taking pride in their accomplishments than walking in Agape love. The foundation of our existence on this planet is to be filled with God’s LOVE! Everything we think, say and do must be constructed upon this “rock”. I believe these laborers thought more of their religious performance, than God Himself or the ones they were trying to help. “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of “prophecy”, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have ALL FAITH, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I AM NOTHING. And though I give all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profits me NOTHING.” (I Corinthians 13:1-3)

There are different “levels” of knowing someone. We can learn about a historical figure, but we do not know them “personally”. The same thing can happen when people read “about” God in the Bible, yet they may never encounter or have an intimate relationship with Him. It is common for people to add and include the knowledge of God into their lives instead of surrendering their heart so that He can transform them. Notice in the Corinthian passage, that someone could actually be a “scholar” of God’s Word, yet without knowing the Lord, it would just be information. Jesus was saying in the Mathew passage that these religious leaders were being led with an emotional connection. Trying to walk in the Spirit, while in the “flesh” is like trying to plug a 110 cord into a 220 outlet. It is not “what” we do – it is “why” we do it. It is the same spirit of Pharisee that attempts to be a follower of God, but have never had their spiritual eyes opened. “But all their works they do, are for to be seen by men: they broadcast their knowledge of the Law of Moses, and enlarge the borders of their garments.” (Mathew 23:5) Unless our works are built on love and the obedience of His voice, they will be burned to ashes.

This lesson today is for me. I am convicted by the Holy Spirit that my life is not in the correct order as it should be. Of course, I may say that I love everyone and have a desire to reach out to everyone in need, but I am not sure this is true. I believe many times, we have waited for God to intervene in our lives and answer our prayers, but since we have been out of “order”, He could not do it. It is not that He does not want to – He cannot override the perfect integrity of His system that gives us the freewill to disobey. Selah. Last year we had neighbors move in next door, and they were definitely struggling financially. The mother came over one day and said the house was in need of much repair and they had little furniture and no money. At first, I was compassionate with their situation as they also had children, but I began to notice they hardly ever went to work. They would not clean the outside of their house or pick up their trash that was all over their yard. They would not even mow their lawn. I am sorry to say, but I lost my respect and patience for them because I started thinking that it is difficult to help someone who will not try to help himself or herself. This attitude began to hinder my sympathy for them as I started looking at them with anger. I admit, I made some negative comments about them and I do not believe this is the right thing to do. This is just an example, but as I have thought about it, I must have a deep-seeded “love” problem. If we only love those who live life as we think they should, what are we doing? This truth of not having the “fullness” of Agape love operating in our lives is a “crack” in our armor. Within this “unlocked” entrance to our conscience, the enemy can focus his attack on our already weakened and unstable thought patterns. It is the RENEWED MIND, which has absorbed God’s nature and character, and with obedience has given top priority to doing what HE SAYS and not our opinions or judgments. If we embrace the worldview that everyone must live according to our “standards” and only reserve our concern for those who pull themselves up with their own bootstraps, then we have missed the mark of God’s idea of love. “As you would that men should do to you, do also to them likewise. For if you love them which love you, what benefit do you have? For sinners (the lost) also love them love those that love them. And if you do good to them, which do good to you, what blessing do, you have? For the lost also do the same. And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what do you have? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.” (Luke 6:31-34)

If we cannot love the people on our street, then how can we minister to people around the world? “But whoever has this world’s good, and sees his brother have need, and closes his bowels of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” (I John 3:17-18) The hotter the fire, the more the dross is consumed, and as we allow Him to refine us, the more pure we will become. “Father, help us this day to be emptied of our old nature, and fill us with our holy, compassionate love. May we learn that when we reach out in love to others, we are reaching out in love to you”. Amen.

All to Thee My Blessed Savior

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 6

ALL TO THEE MY BLESSED SAVIOR

When we heard the gospel about Jesus dying for us and how His blood was the only thing in the universe that could pay for our sins – we were convicted. The Holy Spirit works together with the Word of God when someone hears the calling of the Lord, and this window of opportunity is called grace. We have heard many sermons over the years, how that no one is invited to salvation or has the desire to repent unless the Father draws him or her to Himself. When we are drawn and we choose to reach out to Jesus by faith and confess with our mouth that we accept Him as the Lord of our heart, He comes to our rescue and saves us. His presence fills our temple and we follow Him in obedience with baptism. We continue to pledge our complete allegiance to Him and His Word as we offer ourselves as a living sacrifice and worship Him with Holy Communion. Now that we have “surrendered all”, we learn that our old spirit has been changed into a brand new spirit and that we have the rest of our lives to learn and develop into the person that God has called us to be. We are told that our old man (nature) is dead and that now we are a brand new creation in Christ Jesus.

I would not think there would be that much disagreement in the Christian world with the above statements. I am currently a seminary student and my major is Christian counseling which is focused on human behavior. It is no secret that the mind is the control center, with the spirit and the body on each side constantly trying to influence. From a Christian perspective, it does not take very long to discover, as we try to “walk the walk”, that our nature is not as “dead” as we thought. We can have a wonderful time in God’s presence in the morning and in the afternoon, we can turn into a fire-breathing dragon. We might not think this is unreasonable except this happens even when we have been saved for 20 or 30 years. I believe much of the problem has been because the realities of salvation are not clearly taught in the church. The basic idea of coming forward and giving your heart to Jesus is perfectly valid, however much of the “fine details” are never explained clearly. It is this lack of education and misunderstanding about salvation that prevents many from realizing their personal responsibility to God. Another reason, is because we are madly in love with our flesh! We are thrilled with the idea of being redeemed from hell, but we do not spend a lot of time examining God’s, “rest of the story” that explains how to be a TRUE follower of Jesus Christ.

In Galatians chapter 4 and verses 4-7, we cling to this very comforting passage, “But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law. To redeem them that was under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And, because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying Abba, Father. Now you are no longer a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Let us also take a look at this scripture, “Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave Himself for us, that He might REDEEM US FROM ALL INIQUITY, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:14) We have no problem with accepting these statements as being filled with God’s compassion, except allow me to ask the question: Does this happen instantly at the time we are born-again? It is true that our (past) sins are washed away when we repent and ask forgiveness, however, being saved does not mean that our mind has automatically been transformed or renewed or that every compartment of our heart has been permanently purified or delivered. There is dancing in the aisles, when someone is preaching about being set free from the bondages of sin, but you can hear a pin drop when the attention is turned to God’s demand that we become a living sacrifice. How can people shout amen on Sunday about their victory over sin, and on Monday find themselves “intentionally” committing the same sin over again?

Have you ever noticed that our prayers are filled with asking God to do miracles about everything except to remove our “pet” sins? Where is our confidence that God can destroy the sins that we adore? In the NIV, Hebrews 11:1, says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and being certain of what we do not see.” The reason why we do not stand boldly in faith as we pray against our “secrets” is that we love them too much to let them go. We definitely should not pray, “If it is His will” because we know that IT IS HIS WILL that we live spotless. Can we say that Jesus redeemed our spirit, but did not remove our freedom to choose sin, which is directly connected to our mind? Could it be, the Christian that has not submitted to having their mind renewed has only been “partially” redeemed?

Let us go deeper with learning about what “redeem” means. The Oxford Dictionary says, “Reclaim, recover, regain, repossess, buy back, save, rescue, deliver from, reinstate, restore, make restitution for, liberate, ransom, release, fulfill, and satisfy.” Again, we have no problem trusting the doctrine of righteousness when it comes to Christ living His life through us. When Adam and Eve fell, all of humanity lost their position as sons of God. The “purchase” that Christ made was to buy us back from being eternally lost. God’s plan was for His people to seek Him with ALL of their heart until they received His personal revelations about how to live in His “image”. Unfortunately, many have become satisfied with this concept of being “bought and paid for” and believe it does not matter what they do or do not do toward their contribution to being “saved”. I fear that the religious world of lukewarm Christians have decided that their ticket to heaven is secure and they can live however they want. Many have allowed the roots of their old life to sprout new vines and have “secretly” went to the graveyard at night, to exhume their old nature. They have cleaned him up and put new clothes on him in the name of carnality, and now enjoy living in the denial and deception that everything is fine. It is this attitude to which we must blow God’s trumpet and declare that remaining in this illusion is very dangerous. Jesus Himself advised those who follow Him to “DIG DEEP” and build their foundations on the ROCK! The Lord does NOT dig our foundation for us; neither does He forcefully renew our mind. He does not make us study, pray or obey, but we CHOOSE our spiritual development as a free-will opportunity to know Him and the power of His resurrection. Yes, we are redeemed in our spirit, however it is amazing how much responsibility we have been given to help “fulfill” what He died for us to be. We are not saved by works but we are influenced and empowered to combine our obedience with faith – BECAUSE we are saved!

“Father, we have no doubt that you can deliver us from our personal problems – help us let go of the things we hold tightly. We believe your blood has redeemed our spirit, and we confess that we desire to be redeemed in our conscience. We allow you to clean out the closets and hidden chambers of our heart and mind. We ask you, to purge us of the iniquities that control our flesh. In the Name of Jesus, we ask You to do, “whatever it takes” that will cause these powerful temptations that stand between us, to make us nauseated. We are sorry that we have hurt you and disappointed you. In Jesus Name we pray, amen.”

The Name Above All Names

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 5

THE NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES

Our heavenly Father loves us. How much more can someone love you than to send their only Son to die in your place? He is above you, below you and all around you, constantly watching and protecting. Times may get rough every now and then, but as you count your blessings, you can be confident that He wants the best for you. Father is listening – He has the power – He knows the perfect time – He knows your faith and motives – and He knows your level of understanding. Our life should be a constant progression of learning with line upon line and precept upon precept. He will adjust His intervention according to our spiritual position as we receive His revelation. “For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. Plan’s for success and not ruin – to give a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

On earth, we have one lifetime to learn as much as we can about God and His Word. The more we learn who He is, the closer we are to Him, which is why we cannot afford to waste our time with worldly distractions. An important aspect of knowing Jesus Christ is to realize He has given us His Name to use as an authority over the strongholds of sin along with the conflicts, struggles and concerns of life. Remember that Peter was inspired to speak God’s Name to a man that could not walk from birth, “Then Peter said, silver and gold have I none; but what I have I will give to you: In the NAME of JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH – rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand , and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.” (Acts 3:6-7) Praise God! It is fine to pray, “if it is God’s will” when we do not know God’s will, but I believe there are times when we can hear Father’s specific instructions to use His name in faith. Our obedience opens the door for Him to manifest His miracle power. If all we ever do is pray, “If it is your will”, we are not allowing our faith to develop and likewise we may never learn how to discern His voice. Jesus said, “My sheep HEAR my voice, and I KNOW them, and they FOLLOW Me.” (John 10:27) He has given us His Holy Spirit to help us, His Covenant promises that never fail, His angels as ministering spirits – and His NAME – THE ultimate authority over ALL governments, realms, empires, dominions and kingdoms. The most effective way to use His Name would be to know His absolute truth, which is His will! “Now we have received, NOT the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (I Cor. 2:12,16)

Jesus was drawn to an impotent man lying by the pool of Bethesda. “And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty eight years. When Jesus saw him, He knew that he had been a long time in that situation. Jesus said unto him, do you want to be healed?” (John 5:5-6). I realize this sounds like a strange question, but we must consider the magnitude of peoples intentions. I know that Jesus knew his heart and did not need to ask, but it is very important that we all learn how to boldly confess our faith. The “audible” confidence of our faith is a part of learning about His super-natural power. Jesus simply wanted him to speak out-loud and confess the vision and desire of his need. Stop and think for a moment, how this man represents you and I. We all have problems from time to time and some have serious circumstances that are a constant hindrance to the abundant life. Jesus sees every tear, knows every thought and realizes our difficulty just as He did with this man, however, He does not work outside of the principals and divine order of His Holy character. He is asking right now, “Do you also want to be delivered?” “Jesus said unto him, RISE, TAKE UP YOUR BED AND WALK.” (vs.8) Whatever you are facing in this hour, the Lord is just as concerned with your problem as He was with this man! Moreover, just like the impotent man, He desires for us to state with boldness and confirmation that we KNOW His Word and that His blood has opened the windows of heaven to receive His miracle blessing!

This unnamed crippled man represents all of humanity who at times feels helpless and hopeless. Impotence comes in many forms: physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, financial, or all of these at once. It simply means “being in need”. Have you ever felt like that man lying by the pool? You may be in a situation that seems impossible and you see no way out. No one really understands the depth of your suffering; not a single friend or loved one seems to have the time, love or energy, to really relate, help or touch the deepest part of your heart. Take a good look at that impotent man and think of the years of struggle, the loneliness, discouragement, depression and the hurts heaped upon him by uncaring, insensitive people. How often he must have lifted a withered hand to those rushing by to get their own needs met, crying, “Someone, help! Please! I can’t do it on my own!” Multitudes of people are spiritually helpless and impotent because of a lingering battle with some tragedy or haunting sin that has robbed them of the abundant life. They lie helpless on the bed of doubt and despair, always hoping for a miracle, always waiting for someone to stir things up and make something happen. They read books and go to doctors, counseling sessions and seminars, waiting for that one great, life-changing miracle, nevertheless, nothing changes. My heart breaks for those that are suffering and disappointed with the way things have turned out. I personally know individuals that are good people but are miserable in their condition. I do not have all the answers and would not attempt to understand why certain ones receive miracles and others do not. However, I know that God’s Word does NOT fail and that He does not play favoritism! Our heavenly Father is just and fair, and honors every person’s faith as it is submitted to Him with a pure heart. The Lord has His perfect way of doing things and when we do not follow and obey His directions, He will not compromise His divine integrity. Humans become frustrated and struggle when they attempt to question and guess with their natural opinions. Father has a reason for everything and draws the blueprints for why and why not. We must always remember, we can know His Word and hear His voice at times, but we do NOT know the hearts of those we are praying for – unless He reveals it to us.

There is LIFE in His Name and POWER in His blood! Our faith unbolts the door and allows His divine reality to flood our soul. His power changes circumstances and creates opportunities! Our faith speaks to the mountains and His power casts them into the sea! Our faith rises with confidence in His Word and His power fulfills His promises! I believe God’s great love responds to a cry from the heart—and I believe Jesus came to this man in answer to a deep and agonizing call to the Father. The Bible has much to say about this cry from the heart. “In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God; HE HEARD my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears” (Psalm 18:6). A plea to God from our heart will always be answered by a merciful, healing response from heaven! Pour out your heart to Him this day. When you know His will – confess it OUT-LOUD. Speak His Word boldly with confidence, using His NAME with unwavering assurance!

He is EMANUEL – He is with us – He is waiting for you now.

Change…The Last Frontier

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 4

CHANGE…THE LAST FRONTIER

I had a divine appointment with a friend of mine the other day. I call it “divine’, because of the unique way that opened up the relaxed opportunity to talk privately. He has been going through some serious health problems and much of it has to do with his diet and lack of exercise. He confessed to me that he had tried over the years to lose weight and eat better, but had failed miserably. Food had become an addiction and he had very little willpower to be victorious over its control. He sadly and with the facial expressions of agony, told me to my face, “I cannot change”. As our conversation ended, and I walked to my vehicle to go home, I thought about the words he had proclaimed. I wondered about the levels of desire that humans are designed with and what is it that causes some people to succeed.

After much thought and study, I have concluded that God has given humanity freewill to choose certain things within a limited context of His overall plan for our lives. Within this power to decide, is the ability to prioritize and organize our desires. We must realize that we are not mechanical robots that are completely predestined and accept the philosophy that we play an active role in our destiny. This brother has made an error in the way he views his situation. Whether or not he realizes he is in denial, he willingly accepts his condition because it is a way he can hide behind his weakness. It is not that he “cannot” change, but rather it is obvious he does not want to. Actually, he has demonstrated the potential of the human psyche to deceive our own subconscious with a complex psychology, in order to be able to justify his actions. By surrendering his ability to change, he can now remain attached to his desire to indulge. Thus, feeling sorry for himself, and waving the white flag, his lust can continue to dominate and be satisfied.

Therefore, what makes the difference between those who move past the helpless and hopeless stage, and move into victory? It will always come down to the contents of the heart. The heart is a mystery that is difficult to explain, but can be considered as the deepest habitation of the conscience. One of the most popular statements in the Bible is found in Proverbs 23:7, “for as he thinks in his heart – so is he”. These amazing ten words is the simple answer to the entanglements of life. We do what we want to do and we are what we are because of what is in our heart. There may be places we cannot climb, but in general, the barriers we face only become obstacles if we believe in our “heart” that it is impossible. It is not guaranteed that we can fulfill all of our dreams, however unless God say’s no, there is no limit to what we can do or how far we can go. The reason why my friend cannot achieve his desire is that it is a moderate thought that has been placed further down in his “passion” list. Our moderate thoughts are not important enough to be considered an emergency. We will not change until our agony of staying the same becomes greater than our visions of change. This rule can be applied with anything in life because it is directly connected to our levels of determination. If our desire rises to become our highest passion, we will be consumed with the commitment to succeed. There is not enough depression or discouragement in the universe to quench the fires of passion! Just as there was no power in hell strong enough to prevent Christ from accomplishing His mission of the cross – this same unwavering power of staying focused is within you – NOW!

God created the human with the potential to know His voice and to know which direction to walk. Within this ability to see the invisible, lies the power of faith that can move mountains and cast them into the sea. As all athletes can attest, there are no gains without pain and we can also use this truth and apply it to everything worth doing. We were never promised an easy road however; we have been given the anointing to accomplish our destiny and the enthusiasm to see it through! Of all the people to receive an encouragement from, I cannot think of anyone more respected than Jesus. In Mathew chapter 5, He established a very important principal to remember and hold dear. He said, “You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world”. He is literally saying that He has made us as a catalyst, an instrument to make a “difference” in this world. We are a vessel that contains His divine power and He expects us to believe it and act on it! The carpenter builds the house but uses the hammer to drive the nails and in this light, the hammer plays a very important part of the construction. God’s people are instruments that He uses to accomplish His will but He can only work with those who “choose” to be used. We can lose weight, quit bad habits, build a career, become a better family man, walk with God, or whatever is the highest priority in our heart, but we must take the step of faith. “Where there is a will there is a way” is not just a hope or a wish – it is wisdom that unlocks the divine potential of being a good and faithful servant.

Behind the Veil

THE SECRET PLACE
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

PART 3

BEHIND THE VEIL

We see a very interesting and encouraging story found in II Kings chapter six. Syria and Israel were at war and the king of Syria was troubled because whenever he attempted a military strategy, he would discover that Israel was always one-step ahead of him. He had a meeting and asked his servants if they had any information about a traitor in their midst but they said they had heard about a prophet of God named Elisha that had the ability to see the future and help the king of Israel. So, he sent a large company of soldiers and chariots by night and surrounded the city of Dothan to kidnap Elisha and thus eliminate the gifted “spy”. Very early the next morning the servant of Elisha noticed the entire city was about to be attacked at any moment. He asked Elisha, what can we do? Elisha answered in verse 16, “Fear not: for they that are with us are more than they that are with them”. I am sure the servant was confused (just as we would have been) about this statement in a crisis that looked hopeless. In fact, how many times have we faced a critical situation and used our human reasoning and logical thinking to find a practical solution to our problem? If we only look to what is available to us in our “brain”, we are destined for defeat because we do not wrestle with flesh and blood but our warfare and victory is in the Spirit.

As we keep reading in verse 17, Elisha prayed and asked God to allow the servant to have a “glimpse” into the next world. We talk about the eyes of our understanding being opened and how we ask the Lord to “open the eyes of our heart”, but what does that really mean? I believe it is a sincere prayer that is asking God to allow us to see what He sees – and the wisdom to know how He feels about it. In this example, the servant’s understanding of truth went from imagination to literal and this spiritual enlightenment allowed him to KNOW divine reality the way God sees it. “And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha”. Seeing the truth was much more thrilling and faith building than the veiled truth. Revelation transforms the veiled truth into a tangible substance that is real to our spirit. It is a privilege to peek behind the curtain into the next dimension and see the mysteries of the spiritual realm. This is not to say that we should not believe in the things we cannot see because faith is knowing, “without seeing.” However, God is saying, it is similar to many things we take for granted and then later discover how much work and how many people were involved to produce the finished product. When we can witness something from the idea phase all the way to the demonstration, we can have a greater appreciation as we know what was involved to make it happen. The lesson that is being revealed here is for God’s people to understand there is another world at work all around us and to be sensitive of good and evil at all times. Behind the veil of mortal reality, there is an entire world of spiritual reality and since we are spiritual beings living in a natural world, we must use this higher discernment to live by God’s thoughts and wisdom. The encouraging news to us who straddle these two realms is that He has complete authority and control over both.

In this story, we also have a clear picture that angels are constantly fighting battles for us behind this “curtain”. As John 10:10 say’s, “The thief (Satan) has come to steal, kill and destroy” so we can be assured that demons are all around us and have been assigned to destroy us. The second part of that scripture is very encouraging as Jesus reminds us that, “He has come that we might have life, and that we might have it more abundantly.” How many times have we avoided “accidents” and never realized we were in serious danger? When demonic creatures have pointed their arrows at us and swords have been drawn, how many times have angels intervened on our behalf and delivered us from certain defeat? Let us always remember there are many more servants of The Lord willing to help us – than enemies who are against us. Walking in this holy knowledge gives us confidence in knowing that situations are NOT always the way they seem. The devil uses ignorance of God’s word against the saints and “bluffs” them into fear which leads to surrender and ultimately to defeat. Fear binds our faith because we have either never learned about the next dimension or we refuse to believe it is true. Selah. Let us who are children of the light praise and worship our Lord for providing our constant protection and security. Transformation and being renewed comes with seeing behind the curtain of revelation. We can learn as much about God as we desire, and be as close to Him as want to be. It depends on how important it is for Him to be our Lord and how seriously we believe what He says.
